led readerboard instructions please note--- this is STAND ALONE no computer needed concept: displays time date and eight stored messages. The unit can be unplugged and still retain messages. Clock runs about 2hr unpluged. Only writing over or ERASE ALL removes any installed messages. All menu features have a time limit and will return to the display mode without saving inputs. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- KEYPAD layout: [ P ] pauses and restarts display in the pause mode, rotating through messages shows stored messages. pause mode is for indefinite time. [ P ] or [ <- ] or [ -> ] restarts display movement. [ ^ ] or [ v ] rotates through messages and time. [ <- ] or [ -> ] changes scrolling speed. [ menu ] begins menu selections (in some modes, menu is used to exit and save) [ exit ] exits current mode without changing info note: keys described in this document will be abbreviated. exit-[EX] | up or down arrows-[UD] menu-[M] | left or right arrows-[LR] [<-] [->] pause-[P] | -10 or +10 [10] enter-[ET] | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- MENU SETUP selections: (can rotate through up or down) EDIT MSG SET ORDER SET BRIGHT ERASE ALL SET CLOCK FUNCTIONS SET SPEED SET MODE EMPTY --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- EDIT MESSAGE concept: Stores messages in eight slots. Each message can follow each other or can be separated by spaces or symbols SET ORDER can arrange messages in different orders or displays. All message slots hold 45 chr... letters or symbols STEPS for EDIT: 1. [M] menu setup. 2. [UD] select; edit msg. 3. [ET] msg 1-8. 4. [UD] select; message slots 1-8. 5. [ET] displays A at cursor and 3 characters of the partial message. 6. [UD] select; characters at cursor. 7. [ET] saves characters and advances to the next space. 8. [UD] select; characters at cursor... Repeat steps 7-8 until desired message is finished. 9. [M] exits and saves message. This will erase any old messages in that slot. or 10. [ exit ] leaves edit mode without saving new message. HINTS: Messages can only be 45 characters long. Longer messages can be strung together using more than one slot. (1-8) Shortcut keys used during edit mode: [P] returns cursor to blank (0), followed by star,a,b,c,d,e... [LR] moves line left, right. [10] adds 10 to cursor, a,k,u,4,/ [EX] exits without saving -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- SET ORDER: concept: User can change the eight slots to hold any order of messages. User can separate TIME and DATE or eliminate them. ex= T D 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 default order. User can display ex= 5 3 7 1 T 2 T or 7 3 T 3 5 or any combination of eight slots. STEPS for SET ORDER: 1. [M] menu setup. 2. [UD] select; set order. 3. [ET] TD12345678 blinking cursor shows info for that slot. 4. [UD] to change cursor selections. 5. [LR] to move cursor to desired position. T=time D=date 1-8 = messages S=stop 6. [ET] saves characters for that position. User MUST save the position before exiting. 7. [M] exits and saves order or [ exit ] leave edit mode without saving. HINTS Slot 'ONE' will always be valid. Any slots after S are ignored and display rotates back to the first position. Ending like this T 2 4 6 T S will rotate time twice in a row. Use this instead T 2 4 6 S. At first [set order] doesn't make sense. If many messages are stored and not all messages are to be displayed, the [set order] displays only desired messages. If the example of stored messages include "happy new year", "happy birthday", and "happy anniversary". Now the user can [set order] to T,1,S and time and happy new year rotate through the display. Just changing to [set order] to T,2,S yields happy birthday. The best use of [set order] comes into use when in the U/D and JMP mode. In this mode the screen jumps one screen at a time instead of scrolling. The [set order] can create a nameplate type of display. SET ORDER when saved will display only those slots selected. If some slots are missing please reset SET ORDER ... [M] menu setup [up] up to SET ORDER [ET] display shows TD12345678 [M] menu will save default SET ORDER. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- SET BRIGHT: Allows display to be dimmed in three steps, LOW MED HIGH Use of any menu function increases brightness to HIGH, user must reset to desired level 1. [M] menu setup 2. [UD] select; set order 3. [ET] 4. [U] select; LOW, MED, HI 5. [ET] saves and exits or [EX] exits without saving. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ERASE ALL This feature erases all messages and incerts stars. All messages are in order 1,2,3,4 etc. The messages are 8 stars long. HINTS This feature will ERASE all messages. There is NOT a feature to erase a single message. 1. [M] menu setup 2. [UD] erase all 3. [ET] NO OTHER PROMPTS. PRESSING [ENTER] WILL 'ERASE ALL' or 4. [EX] exits without erase all. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- SET CLOCK normal clock set functions. Setting min/hour will 'start' the clock SET MINUTE - - - 0 to 59 SET HOUR - - - - 1 to 12 unit does not have a military time 0-24 SET WK DAY - - - 1=monday, 2=tuesday, 3=wednesday, etc SET MONTH - - - 1 to 12 SET DAY - - - - 1 to 31 SET YEAR - - - - 0 to 59 (2059) HINTS: Not all settings allow up/down or left/right adjustments. [M] exits and saves settings or [EX] will exit without changes. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- SET SPEED Default display movement speed is 20. This can be changed in the normal display mode with the [ <- ] or [ -> ] adjustment. The SET SPEED menu just gives user a graphic number to represent the speed. HINTS lower numbers means faster movement. Using speed changes outside the menu setup: The speed can be changed during any display. use the [L] key to increase speed, Use the [R] key to decrease speed. Once speed has reached the maximun that key is invalid and speed is reversed by use of the other key. ([L] or [R]) In the JMP and U/D modes the speed changes the length of time the display is stationary. (Not to be confused with the rotation speed.) --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- SET MODE concept: To have a display that moves up or down instead of left scrolling. This LIMITS the size of displays and length of ALL messages to the led width. This use is intended for nameplate and clock type of display. This feature self centers display... To defeat centering make MSG longer than screen width by adding blankes at the beginning or end of MSG. EX. MSG=onion (5 spaces) display will divide led width by 5 and auto center. Placing 'onion' close to the center of the display. If user extends onion_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ with blank spaces that total longer than the led width, onion can be placed anywhere within the display...defeating auto center. In the U/D mode [P] two quick presses changes U/D-D/U. [+10] [-10] changes speed of rotation movement of display. Not to be confused with [L] [R] that changes time length of display on screen. These features and graphic symbols can create wild moving screens. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- EMPTY end of help.
